Diversity Visa & Green Card Lottery

Diversity Visa Attorneys in Omaha

Could You Win the “Green Card Lottery”?

A diversity immigrant visa (DV) can be “won” by immigrants from a select group of countries with a history of low immigration rates to the U.S. If you are looking to enter and live in the country, then call 402-403-4358 and speak with a diversity visa lawyer from Burnett Wilson Law in Omaha. We can help determine if your home country can participate in the “Green Card” Lottery, if you qualify based on your individual background, and get a filing started if you do.

Please keep in mind that DV eligibility per country may change year-to-year, depending on immigration trends and legal updates. An easy way to confirm if your country can participate in the “Green Card Lottery” is by emailing our firm and working with our attorneys from the start of your case.

What is the “Green Card Lottery” Anyway?

Diversity immigration visas are selected and given by the U.S. government to eligible immigrants each year based solely on a computerized and randomized drawing system. Applicants are sorted into six different geographic regions. Each country cannot receive more than 7% of the diversity visas available for that drawing period.

Getting a diversity visa is very much like winning the lottery, which is why it has been given that unofficial nickname among immigrants and immigration law firms. The trade-off to the randomness of receiving a diversity visa is that there is no cost to submit your entry form.

Work & Education Experience Requirements

Not just any curious immigrant can enter to win a diversity visa, though. The program has an education and/or work experience requirement, as well as general inadmissibility bars.

To apply for the Diversity Visa Lottery, you need to have a:

  • High school education or equivalent; and/or
  • Work history that includes at least two years of work within the last five years within a job role that needed at least two years of training or experience.

Use Our Guidance to Gain Confidence

Although there is no cost to submit a diversity visa application, many applicants do find the process stressful. Simply dealing with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and following all of their application instructions can be frustrating if you are not familiar with their expectations and general immigration law. This is especially true once you have been selected in the lottery; the entry is only the beginning of the process. Applicants must pass screenings at the Embassy or through USCIS to verify their background and basic qualifications.

To take the busywork off your shoulders, you can let our Omaha Green Card Lottery attorneys guide you. We can walk you through the application process and confirm that everything is completed correctly after verifying that you are eligible to request a diversity visa. If you are selected to receive a diversity visa, then we can also provide legal guidance regarding how to respond to any inquiries and complete the process, securing your “lottery prize.”

We look forward to hearing from you. Call 402-403-4358 today!
